Young Talent Showcase:
Automotive Cybersecurity
Students from University of Michigan Dearborn will be demonstrating two projects:
1. Physical Fingerprinting based Intrusion Detection and Attack Localization System (P-IDS)
This project leverages physical attributes of the electric network to trace the source of the received data packet. This can be used for message authentication for in-vehicular networks (IVN). The proposed solution is network protocol independent therefore has applications beyond automotive. We have developed a test-bench that can demonstrate functionality of P-IDS for controller area network (CAN) protocol.
2. Graph-based Intrusion Detection Systems (G-IDS)
This project leverages graph theory for efficient CAN traffic visualization and anomaly detection. Graph analytics are used to model normal and anomalous CAN network traffic. We have developed a prototype for both physical and remote CAN network data acquisition.

Enabling Secure Services in an Evolving Automotive Ecosystem
The automotive ecosystem is experiencing major changes through the evolution of automation, software developed vehicles, and cybersecurity regulations (including post-quantum crypto). In addition, the emerging use cases in new vehicle services, multi-actor services, and mobility services all require a fresh approach to address hardware protected security environments.
The future requires that OEMs have:
- Agility in deploying services and vendor portability.
- Capacity to support trusted services beyond key management.
- Comparability in minimum common requirements for security across products (based upon detailed implementation specifications);
- Migration plans for evolving regionalised and not mature cryptography.
- Ability to deliver industrial multi-product updates, daily (including firmware).
These drivers change the depth, breadth, and urgency regarding trust management for secure services in automotive.

Young Talent Showcase:
ADAS Vehicle IOT
Faculty Advisor: Bruce Maxim, University of Michigan, Dearborn
In collaboration with Probir Roy. Our team is developing an Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) application that aims to warn drivers of incoming objects through a distance warning alert system. The team is utilizing the FAASD serverless framework and deploying it on a Raspberry Pi board. We will be using a LiDAR detector capable of 2-D point cloud mapping to calculate distances accurately. Additionally, we will attach the LiDAR detector and Raspberry Pi to a remote control car for testing purposes.
Our primary goal is to determine the deployment and scalability of ADAS applications on a serverless framework, and to showcase the many benefits that serverless can provide. We hope that our project will lay the foundation for future developments in ADAS applications and eventually lead to real-world vehicle applications. We are confident that this project will have a significant impact on improving road safety, and we are excited about the possibility of contributing to the ongoing development of ADAS applications.

Invite Only – DMI Lunch & Learn Masterclass - Human-Defined Vehicle: How to Build Vehicles Around the Human Experience
(Room: Silver)
A continuing problem for automotive OEMs has been to figure out how to engage more directly with their customers and help them make the automobile an integral part of their experience, analogous to a mobile phone. This has led to several innovations in areas like autonomous driver assistance systems (ADAS), in-vehicle e-commerce, smart home integration, AI-driven proactive diagnostics, features on demand, etc. The common theme to all these is understanding the interactions between a human and the automobile and distilling the key tenets of those interactions.
In this masterclass DMI experts from product management and customer experience teams will present their experiences and ideas on designing products around human experiences.
